The Power of Community

By Donna Freind On June 10th 2018

Ontario’s residential construction industry is built on collaboration. When professionals come together to share perspectives, challenges, and experience, the result is stronger learning, better solutions, and a more resilient industry.

Community accelerates progress by helping people avoid repeating mistakes, adapt more quickly, and work toward shared goals.

In this video, leaders from across Ontario reflect on why learning together and working together is essential to building a stronger future for home building.

VIDEO TRANSCRIPT:

Susan Cudahy, Enbridge:
To have everyone in the construction industry come together and work toward building the homes Ontario needs creates a strong sense of shared purpose. It reminds us of what we are ultimately trying to achieve together.

Dave Depencier, Depencier Builders:
We need to hear voices from all over the province. No matter the size of your local or where you’re from in Ontario, everyone faces different issues, and those voices deserve to be brought forward.

Doug Tarry Homes:
What I’ve really noticed about a community learning together is the power of the collegial mind. It means we all work toward creating better solutions and a better society.

You can’t do that if we’re working in silos. We have to share what we’ve learned, because we don’t have time for everyone to repeat the same mistakes. Community accelerates our ability to adapt and overcome challenges.

Rick Martins, Huron Creek Developments:
You can’t put a price on the education you gain from being in a room with people who are doing so many different things. You take those learnings back with you, and they directly help you in your business.

Mike Collins-Williams, West End Home Builders’ Association:
One of the wonderful things about the Home Builders’ Association is that it is an organization passionately driven by continuous professional development and learning.

Susan Cudahy, Enbridge:
More homes in the province, built better and built faster. That’s what OHBA is all about, bringing together a network of individuals with a shared goal.
