BBBC-Pro Stream

Where mentorship meets real-world sustainable building practice.

BBBC-Pro is a pilot spin-off initiative of Sustainable Buildings Canada’s Better Buildings Boot Camp. The new program pairs seasoned mentors/Subject Matter Experts with mentees/industry early career professionals in weekly learning sessions centered on a real-world high-performance retrofit project, especially for the OHBA Futures Faster program.

The program has very limited space for 10 mentees to join our SBC Subject Matter Experts for this pilot launch of BBBC-Pro.

Micro-Credential 1+2: BBBC-Pro

Modules

Grounded in the Integrated Design Process (IDP), this six-week learning experience provides early-career professionals with practical exposure and applied knowledge across five core areas of building performance:

  • High-performance retrofit goal setting
  • Energy modelling
  • Building envelope considerations
  • Mechanical systems considerations
  • Human considerations (indoor environmental quality & accessibility)

Each topic builds on the next to create a comprehensive understanding of an actual high-performance retrofit project, using principles of integrated design.

Through guided mentorship and collaborative problem-solving, BBBC-Pro offers a unique opportunity to upskill, build confidence, and accelerate professional growth in the building sector.

 Duration:

  • Mentors must attend a minimum of three sessions (Week 1 and Week 6 are required, mentors can choose which other session to attend).  Mentees must attend all six sessions.  

Delivery:

  • Sessions will be held live, online. This flexible, virtual format allows participants across Ontario to collaborate in real time while working on a shared case study.

Learning Outcomes

  • Week 1: introduction to the project building and overview of high-performance retrofit goal setting.
  • Week 2: Overview of energy model of the project and uses of energy modeling in decision-making
  • Week 3: Overview of building envelope considerations, including material selection and installation as well as quality control and assurance
  • Week 4: Overview of mechanical system options
  • Week 5: Overview of indoor environmental quality and accessibility
  • Week 6: Participants present their recommendations to project team; discussion and feedback from building team.

Cost:

  • Mentees: $1,769.91+HST (2 credits)
  • Mentors: $884.96+HST (1 credit).  
  • Costs covered by tuition credit for eligible participants.
